Shelly Allen is a longtime horse owner and the instructor behind Emergency Ready™.
She brings decades of hands-on horse experience and formal equine first-aid training into practical, owner-level education that helps horse owners navigate emergency situations with more clarity and confidence.
Her horsemanship journey began in 1991 and grew into a long-term focus on equine care, behavior, and recognizing early signs that something is not right.
Living in a rural area highlighted the importance of being prepared to respond when professional help is not immediately available.
For that reason, Shelly completed both the basic and advanced equine first-aid courses through an Equi-First Aid USA instructor for her own knowledge before later earning instructor certification and teaching clinics across Arizona.
To continue strengthening her emergency-readiness education, she also completed additional owner-level training through Dr. Lizzie McCready’s Equine Emergency Training program.
She is known for:
Her goal is simple:
To give horse owners practical first-response skills so they can support their horse safely until professional care is available.
“The lecture and hands-on work were both valuable. The sections on digestive issues and vitals were especially helpful, and taking vitals for the first time gave me real confidence.”
“I valued every part of this class. I left feeling prepared, supported, and confident, with every question answered. Shelly is such a clear and patient teacher.”
“This was a wonderful class. I highly recommend it to every horse owner, whether new or experienced. Thank you for educating us, Shelly.”

Emergencies can unfold fast, and they often fall on horse owners first. Clear, practical training helps you understand what’s happening, avoid common mistakes, and take safe, effective steps while you secure professional care. You don’t have to guess, hope, or freeze — you can act with confidence.
